Read between the Lies

cropped-cropped-rmptumblrret.jpg

What do you want from life?

What do you want from lies?

Seriously.

if you ponder this you get it.

Listen.

Listen to the lies you tell.

Now tell yourself the lies you tell everyone else

and

what do you believe?

Your lies are inflated, exaggerations. You don’t even know what you want,

.

if you want recognition as a bad ass, know what you want to preserve when you emerge-sober, from the other side- and how it fits with the fuck you shared with that bitch who will not go down.

Stop Growing up & Older, start growing wiser/ Helen Mirrem/ Woman getting older & more afbulous

http://www.robertzuckerman.com

There comes a day, somewhere in the middle of every woman’s life, when Mother Nature herself stands behind us and wraps her arms around our shoulders, whispering

“It’s time.”

“You have taken enough now. It’s time to stop growing up, stop growing older and start growing wiser – and wilder.

There are adventures still waiting on you and this time, you will enjoy them with the vision of wisdom and the companionship of hindsight, and you will really let go.

It’s time to stop the madness of comparison and the ridicule of schedule and conformity and start experiencing the joys that a life, free of containment and guilt, can bring.”

She will shake your shoulders gently and remind you that you’ve done your bit. You’ve given too much, cared too much, you’ve suffered too much.

You’ve bought the book as it were and worn the t-shirt.

Worse, you’ve worn the chains and carried the weight of a burden far too heavy for your shoulders.

“It’s time” she will say.

“Let it go, really let it go and feel the freedom of the fresh, clean spaces within you. Fill them with discovery, love and laughter. Fill yourself so full you will no longer fear what is ahead and instead you will greet each day with the excitement of a child.”

She will remind you that if you choose to stop caring what other people think of you and instead of caring what you think of you, that you will experience a new era of your life you never dreamed possible.

‘It’s time’ she will say…

“to write the ending, or new beginning, of your own story.”

Do not

RMPprovo

one more try

i seek your forgiveness, your graces, your respect.

yet

when I sit at your feet, i feel nothing.

I desire to desire you.

Is that asking too much?

I desire to fix all mistakes, bring back innocence and youth and to repair your shattered heart.

It is not enough. These are not reasons to return.

Return only- i have learned- for that crazy dancing lust enveloping the practical side, that primal urge creating attachments caused by a brain hard wired for carnal pleasures and a need to feel alive.

“Do not return for guilt. Do.not,” lectures the therapist. After 30 years the stories from those lounging in the chaise she recognizes when the truth is heard, when someone listens, when someone, finally, forgives herself and moves forward toward trusting her own head.

Rock Me Mama

20s19

Out late in the night she sees only neon, the ice in the tumbler, the glisten of olive in gin.

Discussions around her cover all of the flavors of the human condition.

The man in the wife-beater tee salivates at young flesh on the dance floor.

Mundane observations from the bartender about Kapernaek, the weather, the price of milk in July, keeps heads nodding for another, agreement never required,  equal whining for all, defenses fall down to the bottom of the glass.

To the left sits the troupe of bachelorettes, too much skin, too much makeup, sloppy grins. Yet exhuberant dancing,  mischievous antics, ribald jokes about cucumbers and pickles and wood keep all entertained.

Across the room sits the young man with his date. They are new to the night, to each other, small sips from tumblers of sugar-ice liqueurs flit between witty comments, innuendo and the audacity to look into each other’s eyes, deeply, with blatant longing. Someone buys them a shot. Then to cope, a double for himself.

She pulls her focus to the table before her. Across the high top are women from her coming of age. Small town women yes, but the ones who had her back when she didn’t know she needed that. These women kept the best of the rules and made new ones to get them through career launches, predicted setbacks, the raising children on farms or in cities, fun times when some were without any partner at all.  Yesterday’s road parties rise up to the meet them, memories burning, tinged with regret, but burning wild in the part of the head that stores the most bravado of whatever has passed. Bonfires, beer and big hair. Poison, Bon Jovi and REO. The rhythms and beliefs and the words of the past, slip them into easy conversation, women dabbling in tales, forgotten stories, old town lore.

Who’s sleeping with whom? Who left his wife? When did Charlie start drinking at Double D’s? Get the dirt out of the way and get down to the grit. It isn’t about the consumption of fire, it’s all about the slow death of ignorance, innocence, and what we thought we could be.

How’s Macy with chemo? How’s your husband’s farm? Are you still working at Mulligan’s to keep the coverage you need? There are few answers, a hundred simple confessions, the sips in between the happy white lies. Another beer for the rest, a dirty gin gimlet for one, laughter and photos and hugs. Married happily, not married, never marry warnings, too long married; why is the length of time the gold band covers the naked left finger still the equalizer in 2017?

Shots of Fireball make their way from the men sitting at the rail in the front. Damn bartender makes great tips because he knows all the gal’s names and will share. In a circle they loft the amber liquid, stare into each other’s eyes for few, then raise them up with a clink – not even a nod of thanks to the gentlemen – then a tap on the table top for the ones who aren’t there.  The throwback, the set down, the exhale of the heat of the burn and they settle in for another hour of whatever comes out of the mouth. No need for poker faces or tears. The honesty sets in to balance the fears.

She’s the baby in the rock of the cradle, they are the sisters she let set the pace. The steady has fallen this time-  it’s her turn, only fair.

Found: Me

backhand

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. There’s a woman at the end of her rope. There’s strength in the making of moments; the times we all treasure the most.

There’s a girl at the beginning of every mother. There’s a boy tugging at heart strings of each dad. We live for the making of children; the sins of our parents are lost.

We try to make every failure into a sliver of learning and hope. We make babies, build swing sets,  hug often; but we fail, find we are human, drink oft.

It’s a whirlwind of life ’til we turn 50 then we let our truest truth unfold. We have lived life thinking there are answers in tomorrows; and find that all that we needed, we host.

Give the day to the tomorrows and the past. Learn to feel before the emotion has passed. Bring your heart to center of the table, pinch yourself, scream for more. There’s another 50 years in the waiting. What will you do with the plans you have made? Throw them all to the wind as foolish endeavors or embrace them and make them your slave?

She took on the aura of learning and in the darkness experienced all the limits she sought.

Peace, please.

Your children sleep

your parents are safe

your dog lies at the foot of your bed, softly snoring.

There’s a sound in the night

it’s your voice crying out in protest

but you go back to sleep thinking it was just the rain.

You give what you have,

take nothing more, well, nothing that can be measured by bank accounts

and you flee the life you lived, the life you liked, the life you lied.

You wake up in the daylight,

sun streams on your cheeks, dries tears you have cried,

there is no escape from a prison you create

in

your

mind and heart.

Breathe, loved child of the past.

.

Breathe. And weep. And Breathe.
